We all want to see our own website at the top of Google searches for photographers in our area, am I right? With your site ranking at the top of local Google searches you’re guaranteed to have your services front row and center in front of a lot more local people who are of course your potential clients.
So basically, if you can figure out the ever-changing game of Google and get your website ranking closer to the top of the list you will have more clients (assuming they love your work which is, of course, gorgeous, right!?) and presumably, more money, which is always a good thing when you are trying to grow a sustainable, healthy business.
So, let’s talk a little bit about how to ensure your website is ranking higher in Google searches, shall we? We are going to go over three easy steps that you can take to boost your website higher in the Google search rankings.
So if you are ready to get in front of more clients in your area for free just by putting in a little bit of work (no tricks or fairy dust needed here guys!). That’s right just some good old fashioned elbow grease will get you where you need to go. The best part is…these three steps hardly take any time at all.
OK enough with the small talk and let’s dig into the good stuff - how you can start boosting your web presence and photography SEO now. We’re excited to share these super easy steps with you guys! And of course, share your personal experience with us in the comments, we would love to hear from you.
Let’s face it, we have so much to do with photographing our clients, editing, marketing, building a brand, studying and keeping up with family life that our blogs often fall to the wayside. This is probably one of the single most important things you can do to get in front of more local faces in your area… post relevant content on your blog at least once a week or as often as possible (the more the better!).
This, of course, can be posting a recent session you have photographed or anything that would be relevant for clients wanting to have their photograph taken - like what to wear, fun places to have your photo taken, what is a lifestyle session, etc. Basically any content you think that your ideal client would like to read or see.
Now that you're on board with posting content on your blog more often, it’s important to make sure that you're including important and relevant keywords in your blog posts and titles!
For example, if you are a family photographer based in Fairhope, Alabama you might focus on Fairhope family photographer as your keyword for a recent session. Make sure to include these keywords in your text somehow, it’s important to make it sound natural. I also like to include the keywords in my blog title and it may look something like this: Adams Family | Fairhope Family Photographer.
You may also want to consider guest posting on other high ranking blogs in the photography industry (like Pretty Actions or Pretty Presets) which may link back your own blog with a very good quality SEO friendly link.
We live in a time where social media is more accessible than ever and most of our clients happen to be using it in some form or another, so naturally, you should too!
However, posting to social media isn’t always enough to get your work seen by the right people or even that many people for that matter. Shares, likes and comments on your content are what will make your posts more visible so it’s important to encourage interaction on each of your posts. Here are a few lines I like to use on my posts that help me get more interaction:
Also, when you're posting new blog posts, make sure your post is shareable across the board! It should be easy for people viewing your posts to share the content of Facebook, pin it to Pinterest, etc. The more places your blog post shows up in, the higher your page will rank in Google.
This is a fairly new rule for Google. With mobile devices becoming the new norm it’s important your website is formatted to be mobile-friendly. This means that your website will have a more simplified and streamlined version that appears when someone tries to view your site on a mobile device.
If you haven’t done this already a lot of website builders have streamlined options for you to do this on your own - just refer to your web building platform to see how you can do this. Google is currently ranking websites with a mobile-friendly platform higher that sites that do not, so this is a pretty important step to complete!
Just remember to take things one step at a time and it will seem like you have your goals completed in no time at all! And get ready to be a superstar because once you have completed everything on this list your business will be more accessible than ever to people in your area. Seriously post your experiences below in the comments, we would love to hear from you!

I'm a momma of four who, like a lot of other moms, found my love of photography through photographing my own beautiful children. Since first picking up a camera over 9 years ago and having professionally photographed all sorts of subjects and venues, I have come to learn that I am most passionate in newborn and child photography and I am lucky enough to be able to specialize in this area!
